San Francisco Bars and Events: A Call for Help!

Friday, April 18th, 2008

Some of you may already know that I’ve signed up as a new author for SF Metblog (http://sf.metblogs.com). I am totally excited about this as it will give me new motivation to write and blog. Since I basically love all things SF (I even love to hate Muni!), I’m sure I’ll have no problem writing about this city!

I’ve decided to write two weekly “columns” of sorts!

First, I will write a bar/happy hour review tentatively called “Happy Hour” where I pick a bar each week and post my thoughts on it! (I can’t wait to start researching! Anyone wanna come with?)

The second column I want to do is a weekly roundup of events. Basically, I want to pick an event for each day of the upcoming week and write a little blurb and link to their respective sites, etc. I think this will be a great opportunity for all of you talented friends of mine to get a plug for your event!

This is where you come in:

project playlist pt. 2

Tuesday, June 5th, 2007

so i’ve decided to resize the player and i think it looks fine on my page. not sure how functional it would be, especially if you want to browse around the site. but the option is still there to launch the standalone player!

happy listening! i’ll be sure to include good stuff!

project playlist

i’ve finally got around to updating some things. i’ve fixed some of the links in the header, changing “networking” to “social network” since those sites really are about my social network, and not actual networking - as in for business and such. i feel it sounds better.

i’ve also added contact information and updated my resume with my current email address and removed the address and phone number. it was on there for awhile, but i just felt that it’s not necessary and with the internet these days, you can’t be too careful. i think it’s enough that my first and last name is available to world via this website, i don’t think people need to know my full address and cell phone number too! i’ve yet to update my work experience. it’s been a couple years now and there’s some good stuff i can add to it. i just have to find the time.

but the real reason i had the urge to update was this great site called project playlist! it’s a great social music experiment where you sign up and search for songs to add to a playlist. from there, you can get the code for the player and post it on your website, blog, or social networking page. since the code for the actual player was too large to include in my sidebar, i kept the link for the stand alone player that launches in a new window. this actually works better for this site, especially if you want to listen to my playlist, while browsing older entries or leaving my site. that way, the page doesn’t reload and restarts the player every time you leave. the only issue really is that your pop-up blocker may prevent it from playing. so just enable pop-ups for this site, or just once to listen to the player. i’ll be updating my playlist every now and then and promise to have some good stuff on there. i may even change out the playlist entirely to have a whole new batch of songs.

moblogging

Monday, March 5th, 2007

i’ve been using flickr to post images to my site from my phone, which is pretty cool. but i wanted a way to post a video from my cell phone, and flickr doesn’t support that. i was trying to see if there was a way to use youtube to post videos to and have automatically posted here on this blog. but it took a really long time for youtube to authorize it and it wouldn’t automatically post to my website. not sure how to figure that out yet.

so my next best bet was to look into plugins for word press (the blogging software code i use to manage this site). and i totally hit the jackpot! there’s so much i can do with this site. but for now, i just wanted to get my moblogging (mobile blogging) up and running. after many many hours of reading about php code and troubleshooting the postie plugin i installed, i finally got it going.

fixed!

Wednesday, June 14th, 2006

i finally got rid of that thin white space down the side. there was a 1 px padding on the footer which bled all the way up to the header.

i spent a lot of time trying to tweak the header until it went away. but as my page loaded up, i saw that the header was fine until the very last second, which made me realize that it has to be somewhere towards the end of the script.

so i checked the structure of the footer and found code for 1 px padding. i don’t know why it was there. i’m glad it’s gone, though. i don’t think i need the padding for anything. i think it had to do with the original header. but since i use my own image, i don’t need it anymore.

this makes me happy.

almost up and running

i’ve finally updated my gallery. i downloaded this iPhoto plugin that lets me export photos directly into an album or create a new album and lets me resize them all and everything. it’s really neat and makes life a lot easier to upload photos. so hopefully this will allow me to keep everything up to date and i can upload photos as soon as i download them off my camera and whatnot. now people can stop bugging me for pictures and i can just direct them to this site!

i’m still trying to work out the kinks on the gallery page. i want a link that directs back to this main site. once you click on the link on the side bar to go to the gallery, there’s no link to come back. you have to use your browser’s back button to get here and it’s pretty annoying once you’re already in the gallery pages. i like the simplicity of the theme i’m using, but it just doesn’t have the functionality i want. like for instance, when you’re browsing through the photos, you can only go through page after page, you can’t select page 1 or page 24, you have to go through each page in sequence. i think i’ll just have to keep playing around with different themes until i get the right one.

and there’s no main index page to just edit the html or add a code myself. if there is, i can’t find it. it’s all based on modules and php, which i just don’t know much about. i spent a good amount of time reading about modules last night and realized that i should’ve been reading about creating themes. i really don’t want this to be more complicated than it has to be. i really want to just keep things simple.

but the good news is i’m almost done. we’ll see how things go. i might just scratch the whole design altogether. the important thing right now is just to get photos up and start blogging: check. and check.

i’ve decided to toss out the old site and start over from scratch.  well, mostly from scratch.  right now, this site is undergoing major construction and i’m hoping to have everything up and running by the end of the week.  i thought it was best to make this my central location for blogging and uploading photos.  i’ll have a link to my resume and a links page, but that’s pretty much it.
