i’ve been using flickr to post images to my site from my phone, which is pretty cool. but i wanted a way to post a video from my cell phone, and flickr doesn’t support that. i was trying to see if there was a way to use youtube to post videos to and have automatically posted here on this blog. but it took a really long time for youtube to authorize it and it wouldn’t automatically post to my website. not sure how to figure that out yet.
so my next best bet was to look into plugins for word press (the blogging software code i use to manage this site). and i totally hit the jackpot! there’s so much i can do with this site. but for now, i just wanted to get my moblogging (mobile blogging) up and running. after many many hours of reading about php code and troubleshooting the postie plugin i installed, i finally got it going.
i never really use the video function on my phone. mainly because it sucks. but who knows, i might get some decent and fun clips while i’m out and about. and it’s good to know that it’ll be posted pretty much in real time. basically what happens is that i email a multimedia message from my phone to an email address i’ve designated solely for posting and anthonyriva.com checks it every 15 minutes and posts anything it finds in my inbox from my phone.
flickr was great to use, but i’m just not as wrapped up in that community to get much use out of it. so it’s great that i can post from my phone now independently from another site.
although, i’m starting to really get into youtube as a place for my videos. so i’ll start posting more content there. i’ve been in the film-making kick lately and working on a small project right now. so i’ll need to start integrating youtube with this site.
